Singapore currently has a 20% market share in the conventional bunkering sector, and it is looking to expand its supply of alternative fuels to meet the industry's potential needs.
Total Marine Fuels Private Limited, Total's subsidiary in charge of global bunkering operations, was recently awarded a new LNG bunker supplier license by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The agreement with Total, the port's third LNG license, will begin on January 1, 2022, and will last for five years.
Total signed a 10-year agreement in 2019 to build an LNG bunker supply chain in Singapore's port.
The new deal is part of the company's ongoing efforts to help Singapore achieve its target of becoming a major LNG bunkering center in Asia. It also illustrates Total's belief in natural gas's position in the global maritime industry's energy transition, as well as its ability to further minimize carbon emissions from ships through the production and deployment of carbon-neutral bioLNG in the future.
Total has made significant investments in LNG infrastructure, which will help its shipping customers embrace LNG as a marine fuel. Total has been sailing the Gas Agility, one of the world's largest LNG bunker vessels, at the Port of Rotterdam since November 2020. By 2022, the company plans to launch another newly constructed LNG bunker vessel in Marseille, France, while a third bunker vessel will serve the port of Singapore.
