The launch of new on-site cargo handling equipment is a major achievement for the Leatherman Terminal of SC Ports, which is expected to open in March.
All five ship-to - shore cranes have entered the Leatherman Terminal with the new delivery.
The new ship-to - shore cranes have a raise height of 169 feet above the wharf deck and a width of 228 feet, allowing the largest container ships calling on the East Coast to operate.
The first 4 Leatherman Terminal hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes have also arrived. The new cranes, measuring 88 ft tire-to-tire and capable of handling containers stacked 6 high, are the largest in SC Ports' fleet.
“The arrival of cargo-handling equipment at the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal is a big moment for SC Ports. These ship-to-shore-cranes will work some of the largest container ships on the East Coast when we launch operations at the Leatherman Terminal in March, while our hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes will also ensure efficient operations," said Barbara Melvin, SC Ports COO.
