Kogas said in its statement on Thursday that it had deployed the Jeju LNG 2 vessel to deliver volumes. At Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's Okpo yard, the STS LNG operation was completed.
This ship-to-ship LNG loading verification test was the first such procedure in the world, the company says.
2.000 metric tons of LNG is supplied by Jeju LNG 2. The demonstration test and gas trials for the LNG tanker from Maran Gas have been completed.
Global Star is currently under construction at DSME, with the ability to transport 174,000-cbm of LNG.
Previously, these operations were carried out with LNG tankers heading to gas test terminals in either Incheon, Pyeongtaek, or Tongyeong.
The schedules have however, become tight due to the rise in unloading at these facilities during the winter season. This is also because of a rise in the construction of LNG carriers. In addition, from the shipyard to one of the terminals, the vessel has to travel a certain distance.
In collaboration with the Korean Register of Shipping, DSME and Korea Line Company, Kogas completed all the preliminary planning work. The operation was completed over a three-day duration from 24 to 26 November.
Jeju LNG 2 loaded the cargo at the Tongyeong LNG terminal for trial operations on 24 November.
