The Arktika escorted the dry cargo carrier MV Siyaniye Severa through the Ob Gulf, FSUE Atomflot said.
The Rosatom icebreaker began escorting the MV Siyaniye Severa at an average speed of 10-12 knots at the entrance of the Gulf of Ob on 23 November.
“The first mission of the nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika in the Gulf of Ob has demonstrated the efficiency of the vessel's operation on the sea channel. Excellent maneuverability and draft of the nuclear-powered ship allow it to guarantee safe icebreaker assistance at one of the busiest shipping sections of the Northern Sea Route," stated Leonid Irlitsa, First Deputy General Director, Shipping Director, FSUE Atomflot.
On 14 November, the Arktika nuclear-powered lead icebreaker Project 22220 left the port of Murmansk. Two days later, the vessel underwent further modifications in Kola Bay and then the Arktika sailed for the Northern Sea Route basin in order to carry out its first task since commissioning.
In mid-December, the nuclear-powered icebreaker will return to Murmansk Port. The Arktika will resume its mission in the Northern Sea Route area (NSR) after replenishing the ship's stores.
