Initially the partners will build five projects, with three in Ulsan and two in the province of South Jeolla. Once regulatory approvals are issued, the projects are scheduled to kick off in the fall.
The GIG has also initiated a program to collect wind data to help the portfolio.
“Our entry in the floating offshore wind segment in South Korea is in line with Total’s strategy to profitably develop renewable energy worldwide and contribute to our net zero ambition,” stated Patrick Pouyanne, chairman & CEO of Total.
The agreement comes as part of the goal of the South Korean government to attain 12 gw of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
