As part of Van Oord's next phase in the energy transformation of its fleet, an advanced combustion conditioning system with hydrogen and methanol will be mounted on the subsea rock installation vessel Bravenes, the company announced.
The FUELSAVE FS MARINE+ is a proprietary solution for marine diesel engines that claims to reduce both fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
According to Van Oord, the solution would enable the company to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and black carbon (BC) emissions on existing ships.
Van Oord selected the FS MARINE+ solution after spending more than five years validating the technology in the field, in the laboratory, and on the world's largest single row 4-stroke engine.
According to Van Oord, this is the first time the device has been deployed on MaK engines with a Bureau Veritas classification and Kongsberg Vessel Insight integration for a challenging DP3 operation.
This investment is said to pave the way for the offshore industry's next generation of structural productivity enhancement and pollution reduction.
