To - the carbon footprint during operations and port standby, the new vessel has been built with the latest sustainable technologies.
This hybrid vessel has potential fuel-ready engines with built-in versatility to expect e-fuels, in addition to the prospect of running on bio-fuel. It will have a large battery pack, a connection to the shore supply and a state-of-the-art system for energy management.
In line with the Paris Agreement, Van Oord is committed to lowering CO2 emissions to become carbon-neutral by 2050.
The new DP2 vessel will be fitted with an underground cable carousel and a second deck carousel with a total capacity of 8,000 tonnes for cable transport. The vessel will primarily be installed on the offshore wind projects' inter-array grid and export cables. The vessel is also able to install Direct Current High Voltage cables.
In addition to the Nexus, this new vessel is Van Oord's second cable-laying vessel. A further development from Nexus will be its intelligent cable lay control system. It measures 130 meters in length and 28 meters around the beam and will be flagged in the Netherlands.
