The port operator expects to resume full operation of the port by the end of 2020.
After signing the contract in December 2019 Konecranes began the project in January 2020.
As part of its aspirations to become one of the top ten container terminal operators in the world, Yilport Holding wishes to make Taranto a Mediterranean hub.
The recommissioning would include seven previously inactive Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and 16 Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes.
The first job is to push the seven STS cranes down the quay to 100 meters so they can start operations. In the first half of 2020, most of the RMG cranes will also be recommissioned and the remaining RMGs will be placed online by the end of 2020
Konecranes and Yilport Holding have yet to send a statement to our publication as to whether the project will be affected by the pandemic and, if so, to what degree, keeping in mind that Italy has become one of the hardest hit countries by the virus.
Konecranes released a profit alert for 2020 due to uncertainty in the market outlook resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
