Spain: HMAS Stalwart starts sea trials
NUSHIP Stalwart, the RAN's second Supply class auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) to be installed in Spain, has begun sea trials.
The vessel's trials timeline has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, but it is now expected to arrive in Australia by the end of 2021 for final fit-out and commissioning in 2022, eight months behind schedule.
The first AOR replacement, NUSHIP Supply, would replace the retired HMAS Success and close the capability gap in the Royal Australian Navy. In May 2016, the Australian government signed contracts with Navantia to construct two new auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) ships. NUSHIP Supply sailed from Ferrol, Spain, in November 2018 and docked at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island Fleet Base West, Western Australia, on December 1, 2018.
NUSHIP Supply was launched in Ferrol, Spain, in November 2018 and arrived on 2 October 2020 at HMAS Stirling, Garden Island Fleet Base West, Western Australia, for final fit-out and testing. It is now based in Sydney. On April 10, she will be commissioned.
