Taiwanese line Wan Hai Lines orders five containerships at Hyundai Heavy
Wan Hai Lines of Taiwan has confirmed an order for five 13,200 teu containerships from Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea.
“This new shipbuilding contract is the company’s latest fleet renewal plan, so as to ensure that the company’s vessel fleet is able to maintain competitive and support continuous market development. Eventually, the company hopes to deliver better service quality to its customers by more efficient vessel fleet,” the company announced.
The new vessels, which will be the largest in Wan Hai's fleet, will begin delivering in the first quarter of 2023.
Wan Hai has a fleet of 74 owned and chartered ships, and earlier this year placed an order for twelve 3,013 teu boxships at the newly established Nihon Shipyard.
Wan Hai has 43 vessels on order, including this new order, and has been actively purchasing secondhand tonnage to increase its fleet.
