Tersan and Havyard Begin Steel Cutting for Norway's Largest Battery Ferries for Norled

The ceremony has taken place at Tersan Shipyard in Yalova, with esteemed representatives from Tersan Havyard, Norled, DNB Bank and LMG Marine in attendance. This collaboration between leading industry stake holders underlines Tersan’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, environmentally friendly solutions for the maritime industry.

Each ferry will be 84,5 meters in length and 15 meters in width, and will have the capacity for 60 cars and 250 passengers including crew. The battery capacity for each vessel will be 8,000 kWh, making these ferries with the largest battery capacity in Norway to date. The four battery hybrid ferries are intended to operate on the Stokkvågen-Lovund and Stokkvågen-Træna routes of Norway and contributing to more sustainable and energy-efficient ferry services by 2027.

With the advanced battery technology, these ferries will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, setting a new standard in Norway's maritime industry. The vessels will also contribute to cleaner energy consumption and lower operational costs, providing a sustainable economic advantage over time.

These Norled Ferries mark a significance as being the first as a mutual project between Tersan Shipyard and Tersan Havyard. Through this collaboration, Tersan Havyard will ensure dependable supply of hulls, further enhancing overall project efficiency and long-term dependability. The steel cutting ceremony also marks the beginning of the construction phase for these innovative vessels, which will play a crucial role in advancing sustainable maritime transportation.
